Mobility scholarships for history postgraduates and researchers from Ukraine at the German Historical Institute Paris

In response to the Russian war against Ukraine, the German Historical Institute Paris is awarding scholarships for a research visit to France and invites applications from postgraduate students (advanced master’s and doctoral) and postdoctoral researchers whose research projects are in the field of European, African or digital history. This offer is open to applicants from Ukraine who have a sufficiently good command of German, French or English to collaborate with colleagues from the German Historical Institute Paris. The scholarship is worth €2,500 per month for holders of a Doctor of Science (or equivalent), €2,000 for postdoctoral researchers, €1,500 for doctoral students and €1,200 for master’s students.

Through these scholarships, the German Historical Institute Paris is supporting research projects for which a stay in France would be beneficial. The part of France where the researcher will be based will depend on the specific requirements of the research project (the location of archives, libraries, and so on).

Scholarships will be awarded for a period of up to three months, at the end of which another application may be made for a further three months. For master’s students, scholarships are for a maximum of one to three months. Applications may be submitted at any time.

a) Mobility scholarships for research master’s students

Applications for a mobility scholarship as part of a research master should not exceed 10,000 characters (including spaces and bibliography). A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s academic supervisor and a current academic transcript are desirable but not essential.

b) Mobility scholarships for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and holders of a Doctor of Science (or equivalent)

To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must have successfully completed their undergraduate degree. The application must not exceed 15,000 characters (including spaces and bibliography). A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s academic supervisor is desirable but not essential.

An additional monthly family allowance payment may be awarded to Ukrainian research students on presentation of their child’s birth certificate. The applicant will be entitled to this benefit until the child reaches the age of 18.

• for one child: €160
• for two children: €260
• for three or more children: €360

Applications may be submitted in German, French or English and should be sent to foerderung@dhi-paris.fr. For further information, please contact Niels F. May.
